presumed that the scheme will be officially brought to

the cognisance of the Colonial Office by the Governor.

la s the army Council are aware, the purchase of

the aerourome at Kai Tak has lately been approved on

the basis of the cost being found partly from the funds

of the Hong Kong Jovernment and partly by the Air

Winistry, the intention being that while the aerodrome

would be normally available for civil purposes it would

also, if the need arose, enable a service unit to be

permanently established at Hong Kong. It is therefore

important that all arrangements governing its use by civil

aircraft should from the outset be consistent with possible

3ervice requirements.

A copy of this correspondence is being sent to

the Colonial Office with a covering letter, of which a copy

is enclosed for the Army Council's information.

I am

sir,

Your obedient Servant,

(Sgd.) JA
